The Augusta Savage Square project makes a list for state money.

Green Cove Springs is in line for state money to help establish a community center that would honor a famed native-born sculptor and provide a safe haven and arts education for the city's current generation of children.

The Augusta Savage Square project was ranked No. 41 on a Florida Arts Council priority list of 50 projects recommended for state cultural facilities grants, which pay for renovation, construction or acquisition of cultural facilities. The list, which totals $21.7 million, is to be submitted to the Legislature for the 2007 session.

"We're close," said Mayor Debbie Ricks. "We're waiting."
